Goodbye Puglia It was a pleasure meeting you
16 juni 2019 - Castelvecchio, Italië
We have had 3 wonderful weeks in Abruzzo and Puglia but now the time had come to wend our way slowly home.
We saw so many wonderful old towns, drove through many different types of scenery from flat plains to the forests of the Gargantua to the rugged coastline of the heel, the wonderful beaches of Gallipoli and so
much more—
Now over the mountains and what mountains to Preci via Norcia via Ascoli Pinceno , where we had a lunch stop
Flor and Fien took over Bobby my scootmobile
But it is was so hot
We decided to go on and Marijke found an adress near Preci
perfect we are still there
The route here was challenging partially damaged by the earthquake, so still there where parts of the road where shut so we where on a long and windy road up the mountain , the only vehicles until we reached the Top and the road through to Norcia
Obviously Apple did not know!!!
but she can be quite naughty
The earthquake road
Almost there!!
An oasis on a mountain, we where hot , tired and hungry
They gave ua a super spot on the terraced Hillside near the pool
Say no more
we decided to stay 2 nights but it became 3 . Yesterday morning we wherevready to go but after a restless night I found am excuse to stay and dear Marijke agreed
She went off for a long walk to the village but it was too hot even for her. I cleaned my sun awning . Forgot the word !! And my windscreen then swam and the day passed gently by. It is so peaceful here
The pool can have kids noise
and at night the terrace restaurant overlooking the mountains is full
last night we dined there again and ended up drinking grappa with the owner
It is a family business and they are so nice.
After leaving Precis we headed cross country towards Orvietto stopping on the way at Todi , indeed as they say one of the most prettiest hill towns
It was so hot we pocked a camping nearby and it was lovely in Fratta Todina. A family run business in the vineyards, grandpa helped us settle in and the a quick dip in the small pool
ehat a view we had , out over the country side to Todi
Then as planned a ride through the Tuscan country side to Montepulciano and Pienza
The heat got us so having driven to the parking lot for campers, we hsd both been there before, we turned tail snd went to our next suprise
Oh what a suprise
As we arrived, thid was our view as we topped the hill on the dusty road, camper life brings you to wonderful places and people.
We parked up and just sat and looked. I even fell asleep, then to taste the wine and cheese
And a new blouse
A cheese with Accacia flowers a Pecorino from Lugies brother in Sardinia, here he is cutting it , the knife I now have too.
I have some for you Flo!
we bought a lot from him and his wife Carla
I could not resist a bottle of Vino Santo from these casks
Back at the campers we made our Cob grill and sat looking out to zpienza until dusk fell
Magis moments
We moved on the next morning, woken early by Luigi on his tractor
But he did go and buy us Bread for breakfast
Pienza was beautiful, once we got parked !
Oh what views , the beautiful cypress doting the landscape
And then a wee bruschetta
Reminds me of my stay in Pienza in 1986 when I had a cooking stage at La Chuisa in Montefollenico, what an experience, especially sd Peter Merkx , joined me afterwards and we stayed there and went touring with Uncle Visa in the hand, sweet memories .
Before I get maudeling I will post this my friends and get back to now in Certaldo and the next stage of our journey.
It was nice to just touch down in Tuscany
Nice story Pat!
Hope to see you soon.
Marten
