A small history lesson is required

Matera
After leaving Ostuni we drove cross country to Matera a lovely route past the Tuillerijs again.
Unbelievable
We arrived in Matera unprepared, parked up by some flats, Bobby gave problems at least the lift, so got the hammer out, But I was a bit out of humour with my concern for the e bike lift, that and hundreds if school kids was too much and we finally gave up and went to our camping, just outside town
A good place on the hill looking out too the mountains in the distance
great pasta made by Marijke that night, she is spoiling me
Next morning up early and with half the camping in the bus , Bobby too and the four footers
In town tried to get a Tuk ,Tuk sold out.
So with Bobby to Sassi
we entered the area signposted turned right to a sort of viewing point and saw this
So now the history lesson
Known as la città sotterranea ("the underground city"), its historical centre "Sassi" contains ancient cave dwellings from the Paleolithic period (10th millennium BC). If continually inhabited as Leonardo A. Chisena has suggested it would be one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in the world;[4] alternatively it has been suggested by Anne Parmly Toxey that the site has been "occupied continuously for at least three millennia and occupied sporadically for 150-700 millennia prior to this".
We both just gasped in wonder
The rest you may one day see for yourselves
We got a bit lost trying to avoid stairs but we saw enough never to forget this place
Somethings I just cannot see because of steps and Marijke stays with me , fantastic
This day we separated for just half an hour before getting the bus back snd we met by chance , guess where the Gelateria
Near this building
Back at the camping time to absorb what we had seen, a delicious salad and to bed
To Triona we went, cross country and a few detours later we arrived, that I will spare you..?But we laughed. Eventually We turned the 2 old farmers watched us trying to turn our campers in the depth of valley, atbthe end of s road going nowhere... Talk about looking
perplexed
And Marijke said good place to have a drink and eat something, love her for it. And we got out without
meeting any one coming towards us
Triona a Hill town on the Apulia way our next port of call , was a place steeped in history , said to be named after Troy again history, you may look it up!!
We rested then climbed the hill above the parking with free electricity ! At 6.00pm The oldies where going to church the men chatting on benches and the young parading through the village streets , which I remember from San Remo
And just around this corner we found a sleepy restaurant, with a children's party and we had a great meal
The menu was completely translated for us by a local
Every day is such a suprise often
by the way lots of the photos are from Marijke
This one is where we have been for 3 days in Manfredonia
relaxing and I watching Roland Garros and I did go in , helped by a lovely German couple.
