Leaving the mountain bologna the wine trip begins

20 mei 2013

By the time i got to leave it had been raining for quite some time. But I had to go . I manouverd the camper into position and slowly crawled up the 15 or more degree narrow road , slip , stones flying every where. Roll back down , then try again , slip, burning tyres !!!! Further down trying to miss stones walls and night lights. My side was in the conifer trees . Okay again, slowly Carpe Diem Go for Gold . Penny beckoned . Deep breath , then i thought i will take a small curve to the right then left and pray. It worked , I crept up to the gates where Rob was pulling it back as far as possible. And i drove through 2 cms on each side.A fond farewell to,Penny then en route to Bologna over the hobbly auto stradas. Our agritourisme see photo is really comfortable but at the crossing of 2 auto routes , a main railway line and on the landing route of the airport 2 kms away. Bologna is a very old city, we took a tour bus and where surprised with the endless tiny streets with covered walkways dating back centuries, a place to visit for the christmas market held in them. Fascinating. Plaza Maggiore is the centre point with its many historical buildings, wonderful food alley and the top names in courtier shops, but also libraries and great restaurants. We dined at one recommended by Joan a friend of Penny called Battibeco in via Battibeco of course delicious. Fine cuisine better than the evening before when on Ellens arrival the owner of the agritourisme bought us too a friends restaurant !! Awful. Ellen had aubergine parmigiana I ink fish salad beautifully prepared . Then Ellen spaghetti with ragu bolognaise a far cry from what we made as poor students , delicious. I kept to my favourite spaghetti Vongole superb . A small expresso then back in the local bus to our agritourisme on the cross roads of noise!! However we are strong, sat outside in the sun , then made our own diner in the camper !!! Asparagus, with Parma ham and a salddressed with some of my truffle balsamic . Plus a good glass of wine from Pattys wagon cellars. What a life . . Now in Piemonte on the wine circuit today to Barberesco to a famous vineyard Gaja , tomorrow Barolo ......we will, drown our weather sorrows it is cold and grey ! Last night we sky watched as if there where chinese firecrackers in the sky for 1 1/2 hours. Unbelievable. We ate the last of my store cupboard, risotto made with a tin of olive soup from holland. Now we have an apartment for 4 days only 35 euro pp per night. campings are more expensive for what you get. Pia and I paid about 26 to 32 euros per night for a simple rustic camping. We managed to live for 46 euros per day ! Ex the ciesel that is expensive and Patty wagon is an alcoholist she gobbles it up. Hopefully photos included ! Still have not got it quite right last time I lost my whole story
