A week long through Italy over the mountains of Abruzzo to the coast of the Adriatic sea
19 mei 2019 - Markenbinnen, Nederland
I last left you in Umbertide, our first stop was Norcia , via most beautiful winding road, after the turn of for Spoleto, we had passed Assisi on our way, but no stopping as we had both visited there before.
Norcia was new to me, but earlier visitors would have seen it in its glory before the earthquake of 2009, everywhere thy are still rebuilding and renovating.
Parking the campers was not to difficult but a downhill walk, me and Rollator and Marijke gracefully holding on to 3 dogs , all hunters.
Once on the main street we wandered along and stopped at 2 shops, this one was sweet and cut us some lovely ham of the bone
Further up we got caught in our enthusiasm and bought.. youncan guess, truffles in potjes, and I or 2 little ones to take home, we where given a few local sausages, rightly so we spent a bit.
our lunch was simple with the workmen in a cafe, we went like them to a nearby shop and brought our broodtje and ordered our coffee and of course icecream for Marijke at the cafe.. try that in Holland !!
Then onwards and upwards , our google;e sent us the steep way, we arrived puffing..
great views though above Cascia
Early the next day we wended our way through the mountains , and for the last bit on a more main road where we met police and bicycles , driving like crazy.
it was the Tour !!
Fortunately exhausted we stopped to confer in Castelnuovo , and lucky girls there was a camper ground there
It seems the village was more or less deserted after the earthquake as most of the village was ruined, Marijke took a look, the next morning, no renovation work had been done, just left as it was. Sad
The camping was interesting and fun with lots of strange things and great old fashioned shower and lovely fresh eggs. Great views too. Called are di Hestia in a sort of commune
Next day to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, in the mountains above Castelnuovo, superb trip, and a fascinating place
But too steep for me. Marijke has more photos I will place a few tomorrow
I had wanted to
stop in Navelli for saffron, but sleepy time in the villages and too steep.
A super quiet route through the mountains to Poppli and then Auto strada
to this wonderful place Marijke had found
At Ortona on the Adriatic sea, and here we are now for our second night , a days rest and washing and cleaning too..
I leave you now witha lovely photo taken at Pennys place
and my bed for a night
Groeten en Liefs,
Marten
All those goodies. Ik wens Marijke een dubbelwandig containertje met 4 compartimentjes, om nog meer en langer te genieten! DDDDD
